Sula Latest

With Mattis away now, it's up to me to keep up standards as Sula enters her final stages of building. After a liberal soaking with linseed oil, I followed up with another of Varnol, pure turpentine, a generous dose of CooVar (Yacht & Seaplane) varnish, with a dash of bitumen, much  like adding Tabasco to a stew.

Meanwhile, if Shetland boats are your thing, then pick up a copy of Alison Munro's excellent booklet, available from the Unst Heritage Trust, Haroldswick, Unst, Shetland ZE2 9ED Price £14.99

  1. ...or to a Bloody Mary. Lovely boat. When do we get Mattis' spirit level trick :)

  2. Or to anything, really, apart from chocolate cake. Now that' a thought...

The gadget was discarded for this boat and the old methods used; rough templates and pencil line scribed on both faces. There are so many ways to do things that everyone has a favourite way. Trust your eye and you can dispense with a lot of fancy gadgets.

For example, lasers have their place but, like a GPS on a boat, should only be used to confirm your position or the sweep of a sheerline.

But I will ask Mattis, if he's bought a camera by now, to put something together if he's not up to his neck in Nordland boats at his new place of work in Rognan, Norway.

  3. Terrific blog.
By coincidence, I have plans of Sula hanging in my office. I will be lofting Sula this spring, and starting the build this summer. I'd really like to see & hear more about your build.

  4. There are many boat accessory items you can choose that will help to make your boating experience easier and more enjoyable. They can also increase the value of your boat.
