Progress

Getting there, in a rather desultory way, but the pace quickens and a deadline is looming.

Nothing much to say other than to point out the use of larch for the steamed timbers, rather than  oak which I find has a tendency to go brittle and break over the years. Never found that with larch which steams well and is more predictable.

  1. Never known anyone use larch before for steamed timbers. I like the fact larch can be used for almost all boat parts, deadwood, planking, frames etc, but steamed larch brings a whole new dimension. Its probably my favourite timber. Do you increase the scantlings over oak, or just go with a wider sided section? Great dinghy.

  2. Lots of Scottish loch boats had larch timbers. Beefier scantlings, for sure. No breaks. Not as posh as oak, but reliable and you can use planking offcuts.
