Vendia 9mm planking from Finland and Collano Semparoc glue from Switzerland, plus a few coats of International Clear Primer, white paint, what a brilliant combination to build a boat. Here's the latest Viking Boats of Ullapool creation, an Iain Oughtred-designed Arctic Tern, the 17ft version, after being turned. and at the long process of fitting out begins.

Spot the Difference

Beauty is in the eye... Having said that, who could find anything nice to say about this boat? But then, who knows. Maybe she's home for a young family, evicted from their house, or an elderly seafarer, home from the sea? Perhaps, soon after this photo was taken, her owner set sail for the South Seas in search of  love and adventure. Who cares whether she's good looking, in other words. She's someone's pride and joy.

And so are these, owned by a good friend of mine in Florida. What's the difference then?

  1. One is lived in, the others are left to anchor.

  2. Maybe it's all really in the mind. Many years ago we saw an ugly little plastic boat, about 9 feet long, wearing an enormous red ensign and her skipper a fine blazer and yachting cap. In his mind he wasn't at Rothesay at all, probably on passage for Samoa.
