The blog will now be devoted not to boat building but to my 82-year-old Vertue, Sally II, now undergoing a well needed refit at Johnson & Loftus in Ullapool (and gliding...)

Garboards

The garboards are now fixed and the next step is to make the skeg, after which it'll be on to the strongback for planking up in 8mm larch.

The garboards were made a tad over 9mm, as I want the centreline to be strong. The stem/apron is split, and the outer stem will be added once planking is done.

At a little over 8ft, this is not so much an Auk as an Ork (or if you are a Tolkien fan, an Orc). But not quite so ugly, I would hope.
